Preliminary Phytochemical, Physicochemical and Biochemical Characterizations of Herbal Formulation of Vishnukiranti Kudineer ( Evolvulus Alsinoides).
Abstract
The siddha system of medicine is one among AYUSH system in India. The siddha medicine is used to treat various diseases, especially in vatha disease. Siddha system concept is spreading a healthy soul in a healthy body. Ceganavatham (cervical spondylosis) is one of the common degenerative condition in cervical ribs, which move unable to move the neck and hands. The vishnukiranti kudineer (Evolvulus alsinoides) Convolvulaceae family is indicated for the ceganavadham in gunapadam part-1 (Mooligai vaguppu). It is a perennial herb sound throughout India. The drug has various pharmacological activities like anti- inflammatory,anti-viral,anti-cancer,anti-oxidant and analgesic activity.Aim:The aim of the study is to perform qualitative phytochemical evaluation, biochemical analysis and physico chemical analysis of vishnukiranti kudineer. Material and methods : The raw drug vishnukiranti (whole plant) was bought from reputed herbal drug shop, Thackkalay Kanyakumari, and it is purified and made into decoction as per the siddha literature. Results: The phytochemical evaluation showed Terpenoids, alkaloids, glycosides, quinones, proteins. The biochemical analysis showed the presence of sulphate, chloride, Tannic acid, unsaturated compound, reducing sugar. The Physico chemical compounds are total ash 9.95% Acid insoluble ash 1.01%, Water soluble ash 1.78%, Sulphate ash 16.25%, Alcohol soluble extracts 10.38%, Water soluble extracts 11.11%.
