Varmam is the vital energy resides and flows in the human body. Varmam treatment is used to treat multi ailments including neurological, musculoskeletal and gynaecological disorders. It plays a major role in treating many of musculoskeletal disorders caused due to injury and degenerative conditions. Periarthritis of shoulder can be correlated with Kumbavatham which is one among the Vatha diseases mentioned in Siddha literature Yugi vaidhya Chindhamani. According to Siddhars, diseases are caused due to imbalanced in any of thathuvam like uyirthaathu, udalthaadhu, aadhaaram, mandalam etc., In Kumbavatham the deranged factor is Visuthi and Anaagadha Aadharam, pitha thodam and akkini mandalam. Varmam points like Puya varmam (Arm varma point), Kaakkattai kalam (Shoulder-pole varma point), Savvu varmam, Kavuli varmam (Hand-fork varma point), Piradhaarai (Armpit-Black line varma point) and Vilangu varmam (Hand fettering varma point) are the thodu Varmam located near the shoulder joint which belongs to Visuthi Anaagadha Aadharam pitha thodam and akkini mandalam. The therapeutic application of these thodu varmam regulates the Anaakadham and Visuthi aadhaaram, pitha thodam and akkini mandalam and thereby retrieves the disease. Thus Varmam has its own therapeutic effectiveness in kumbavatham.
